Guano is located in the province of Chimborazo, specifially in Ecuador’s central Andean region. It stands at a high altitude characteristic of the Ecuadorian highlands, offering a cool Andean climate and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. 

The canton has a population of approximately 42,000 to 43,000 inhabitants, making it a moderately populated rural-Andean settlement with a strong sense of community identity.
